Summary:

This evening event explored current and emerging threats to business and home users alike and looked at real life attacks (including a live Demonstration), and how to best arm yourself and your organisation in protecting your information, be it your corporate image and competitive edge or your personal information; The event helped to highlight how to make the best use of Government services in this area, which have been designed to support you by arming you with the knowledge and information you need to help you in protecting your information assets.

Bio - Edward P Gibson:

Mr. Gibson is the Chief Security Advisor for Microsoft Ltd, in the UK. His primary role is to serve as an advisor to Microsoft's customers, and the public, on the work Microsoft is doing to improve the security of its products. This role comes on the heels of his retirement from a 20-year career as a Supervisory Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). During this period, Gibson was a nationally recognized expert in investigating complex, international money laundering schemes, asset confiscation, and intellectual property theft. While assigned to FBI Headquarters, Washington, DC, Gibson developed an operational training program for Special Agents and executive management, in money laundering / asset confiscation investigations still in use today.

From February 2000 - June 2005, Mr. Gibson was assigned to the FBI's Legat Office, US Embassy London, as an Assistant Legal Attaché. There, he was responsible for all FBI cyber, hi-tech, cyber-terrorism, and infrastructure investigations in the UK. His leadership resulted in the creation of a model cyber program since adopted by all Legat Offices around the world.

Mr. Gibson was a corporate lawyer for a US based multinational corporation prior to the FBI. While assigned to the US Embassy, he qualified as a Solicitor in England and Wales, and completed a two-year computing program at Oxford University. He is also a Member of the Board of the John Grieve Centre for Policing and Community Safety, in England.

Bio - Russ George:

Russ George is an International Information Security Consultant. He will be presenting on security weakness, illustrating the importance of understanding internet threats and the need to correlate between known vulnerabilities and policy, counter measures and browsing habits. Russ is currently employed by Atos Origin Security Practice and is also a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), BSI BS7799 Lead Auditor, EC Council Certified Ethical Hacker and a member of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA). He has experience of Vulnerability Management, Penetration Testing, Biometrics, Cryptography, PKI and Forensic Computing and investigation. Russell has experience of working both for commercial customers and the British Government. Finally Russ is a former member of the BCS Security Expert Panel and is a Member of the Branch Committee.
